SUMMER SWEEPS PROGRAM

CASA, with the support of SCASC and HPASC is offering a new program to reward dog/handler teams that enter Colorado ASCA sanctioned stock trials. There are four classes to choose from and only your four best cumulative scores from the three classes of livestock will be used to determine your Final Sweeps score. There is a one-time entry fee of $15 per dog, which will go 100% toward cash paybacks and awards.

Classes

Each dog may be entered in only one class. The four classes and their qualifications are:

Overall High in Sweeps- this class is available to any dog/handler team.

High in Sweeps Open Dog- this class is only available to dogs that are competing in the ASCA Open or Started classes at the time of entry into the Program. These dogs may not have competed in a higher division offered by another herding organization (i.e. HDIII of the AHBA program).

High in Sweeps Started Dog- this class is only available to dogs that are competing in the ASCA Started class at the time of entry into the Program. These dogs may not have competed in a higher division offered by another herding organization (i.e. Pro-Novice of the ABCA program).

High in Sweeps Conformation Champion- this class is available to all dogs that have finished their ASCA or AKC conformation championships at the time of entry into the Program.

Awards

Overall High in Sweeps: $150 cash payback and personalized award.

High in Sweeps Open dog: $50 cash payback and personalized award.

High in Sweeps Started Dog: $50 cash payback and personalized award.

High in Sweeps Conformation Champion: $50 cash payback and personalized award.

Scoring

  1. Once a dog has been entered into the Sweeps, scores will be tracked from each of the subsequent Colorado trials entered. Please indicate that you are participating in the Sweeps by writing SWEEPS/[the class you’re entered in] at the top of your entry form. There are four trial weekends: 4/30 and 5/1 in Brush, 5/28, 29 and 30 in Kiowa, 7/30 and 7/31 in Henderson and 10/1 and 10/2 in Brush. There are 9 possible trials (two per weekend except Memorial weekend when there are 3 trials) from which to accumulate points.
  2. Scores from each run completed in a trial will be totaled for a “Cumulative Trial Score”. The top four Cumulative Trial Scores for each dog will be totaled for the final Sweeps Score. The dog does not have to enter all four weekends to be in the running. For example, if you enter both days at the May and October Brush trials, you will have competed in four trials.
  3. In order to equalize the points so that an Open or Advanced dog does not have an advantage over a Started dog, each score earned in a Run will be converted to a percentage of the total for that Division. For example, a Started score of 80 converts to .80 (80/100) and an Advanced score of 100 converts to .80 (100/125).
  4. Using the converted points, the maximum points a dog can earn for any one trial is 3.00. For example, if Blue is in Started and receives an 80 for cattle, a 75 for sheep and a 58 for ducks, his converted score for that Trial would be 2.13. A score does not have to be qualifying to count for Sweeps.
  5. At the completion of the October trial in Brush, all the scores will be totaled and Awards presented to the winners of each class.
  6. Tie scores will be broken by a comparison of each dog’s fifth highest Cumulative Trial Score. The dog with the highest score will win the class.

The scores will posted after each trial weekend on the CASA and SCASC websites.

They are located at www.coloaussies.org and www.southerncoloradoasc.com.
